Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being praised as potentially the best Spider-Man movie ever made, with a unique mystery element that makes it feel like a detective film. Ever since Spider-Man: No Way Home left Peter Parker erased from the memories of everyone he loves, the anticipation surrounding his next chapter has reached a fever pitch. Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up four years after those events, following a Peter who has devoted himself entirely to protecting New York City as a full-time Spider-Man, with no one left who knows his name. The official synopsis further teases an unexpected physical transformation threatening his very existence, unfolding alongside a dangerous new criminal threat unlike anything he has previously faced.

Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film stars Tom Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando, and Tramell Tillman.

It’s not surprising that actor Holland would consider Brand New Day to be the best Spider-Man movie he’s worked on. In the five years since the last Spider-Man — 2021’s No Way Home — was released, Holland has gone on record multiple times stating that he would only return as the beloved Marvel hero if the next movie would “do justice to the character.”

Thankfully, Marvel and Sony listened to the fan-favorite actor. Last month, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day “is the first Spider-Man film that we’ve made in the MCU that is focused on the classic elements of Spider-Man. He’s doing the Spidey thing of living in a rather sad, small apartment, listening to the police scanner and going out and using his great power responsibly.”

While superhero movies are no longer bulletproof at the box office, Spider-Man isn’t any superhero. He has been popular at the box office long before the MCU was even a twinkle in Feige’s eye. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is all but guaranteed to be a major hit for Marvel and Sony, and should go a long way in restoring the public’s faith in the MCU ahead of Avengers: Doomsday.
